A young and growing NGO, Planet Mars Foundation provides a safe home, quality education and all-round support to destitute and orphan girls in rural Karnataka.
Based in Kallianpur, a village in Udupi district, PMF was established in 2017 by 15-year-old Rakshanda, a resident of the United Arab Emirates, and a native of the district. Despite contributing to NGOs during her visits to Udupi, Rakshanda saw the urgent need to provide long-term, holistic support to at-risk girls
in remote villages. With a vision to truly secure and empower their lives, the Foundation opened its doors to 30 girls in need within the first year. Now,
we are gearing up to expand our happy family to 100 girls, along with support initiatives for destitute women and senior citizens.
At PMF, our girls have not only found a loving home and caring family, they have found their wings – with the right education, life skills development and the encouragement to dream high and become active citizens of the world.
VISION
To ensure that every girl child enjoys her fundamental rights and has access to basic facilities, regardless of her life’s circumstances, so that she may grow nto an educated, economically independent and responsible citizen, who contributes actively to the society.
MISSION
To alleviate the lives of at-risk girls and other vulnerable sections of our society by,
Providing long-term, holistic support to destitute and orphan girls from the
backward regions of rural Karnataka, including education, food, shelter, healthcare
and life-skills development, until they grow into economically independent adults.
Providing need-based support to destitute women, abandoned senior citizens and
children with special needs from economically deprived backgrounds.

RAKSHANDA
FOUNDER
A socially sensitized child, who often volunteered at NGOs and orphanages, Rakshanda founded Planet Mars Foundation when she was just 15 years old. A not-so-happy visit to
an orphanage led her to realise the urgent need to provide long-term, systematic support to at-risk girls. Thus, with the support of her family and a passion for service, Rakshanda set up PMF to provide everything to a disadvantaged girl that someone of privilege, like her, enjoyed – love, care, security, education and the right to dream.
With PMF successfully supporting 30 girls today, she dreams of welcoming hundreds more in need. She also wants to reach out to other vulnerable sections of the society, like destitute women and abandoned seniors who are economically deprived.
Rakshanda, now 18 years of age, is pursuing her engineering degree in the United States. Apart from acing in academics, she is also an athlete and has interests in debate and art. She is an active member and volunteer of several global charity organizations, including Girl Up – a campaign led by the United Nations.
